BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE WELSH DRESSER VICTORIAN EDWARDIAN SHABBY CHIC UNIQUE in Swansea, Swansea for sale

This is an old bow fronted dresser that we sourced from a cottage in rural Wales. It has heaps of character, charm and history. It is constructed we believe in oak and was in sorrowful condition when we discovered it. Unloved for many decades, we made the decision to firstly repair what we could, without spoiling its integrity (i.e. the floor and back of the base cupboard) and then give it a sympathetic paint finish that remained consistent with its age. Please remember this a very old piece of furniture that visibly and proudly bears its scars - it is this that we believe gives it a lovely vintage authenticity. It would look perfect in an old cottage or a house that has a vintage french farmhouse feel. Take a good look at the photographs as we've striven to illustrate the dresser's unique features, which some may regard as imperfections whilst others would claim as character and charm. If an immaculate factory finish, with drawers and doors that swish open with ease is your preference then this piece of furniture is not for you. However if you are someone who enjoys the faded beauty and character of yesteryear this dresser may be exactly what you're looking for. You will note the oak boards of the counter top have come away from each other but remain solid and strong. One side of the base unit also has a split as does the interior walls of the cupboards, but again all remain strong. The handles, which are original to the piece are buckled in places but remain beautiful - the locks do not work. As the wood has moved over the years it has caused the doors and drawers to hang and open rather eccentrically. The dresser has been thoroughly cleaned and fully primed using the finest professional primer by Zinsser. Following this preparation the dresser was then painted with Annie Sloan Chalk paint - an initial coat of a gorgeous shade called Provence was applied, which Annie Sloan describes as akin to the blue/green shutters of the South of France. We then top coated this with two coats of Annie Sloan Old White, a cool soft white which is the colour of chalk and gesso. The whole dresser was then heavily distressed to emphasise its history and to provide that essential timeworn feel. The paintwork was then waxed & polished with a combination of Annie Sloan dark and clear wax to provide durability. The oak counter top is finished in Liberon Bison wax.
